Laurence was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg and served during WW2 after training at Fort Belvoir and in England. He landed in Normandy and led the Army Combat engineers across western Europe to Berlin. Mary was born in Ridgway, but after their marriage in 1948 she lived the rest of her home life in Johnsonburg. They raised five children, who were all members of the JAHS National Honor Society. Along with his brothers he owned and operated the Thorco Bottling Company in Johnsonburg. Laurence was active in the Community for many years and Mary was an active member of Holy Rosary Church. The children wish to honor their parents for their lifelong devotion to Johnsonburg through a perpetual scholarship to be presented annually to a senior who will be matriculating to higher education.
